On behalf of the faculty, staff and students, I have great pleasure to welcome you to the Faculty of Biosciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. The Faculty of Biosciences is one of the two faculties in the College of Science, KNUST. Our faculty plays a key role in teaching, research, and service to community. In our faculty, students have the opportunity to discover their talents through well-developed curriculum, student-centered programmes, academic-industry relations, a responsive staff, and support services for students’ well-being.
The primary goal of our curriculum is to equip students, not only to acquire knowledge and skills for the job, but to train them to become critical thinkers, life-long learners, and to motivate them to acquire questioning and communication skills, that can lead them to develop problem-solving attitude. Essentially, we guide the students through self-development and self-discovery, plus professional development. With these skills, our graduates are prepared for the job market. Based on the collective strengths of our Faculty, the resources of the university, and the large student number of over 4,000, spread across five departments, together with other programmes, our KNUST ranks the leading university for quality education in 2023 (Times Higher Education 2023 Impact Ranking, SDG4).
At a time when science and technology are needed now more than ever to dissect the challenges of the 21st century and create sustainable solutions to them, the Faculty of Biosciences is uniquely placed with the opportunity to draw on the diversity of talents and ideas of faculty, staff and students.
It is an honor to serve as the sixth Dean of the Faculty of Biosciences and to build on the solid foundation of my predecessors. As scientists, we celebrate our successful graduates who are employed in many organizations in Ghana and beyond; those who have enrolled in higher education degrees in sister universities worldwide, and the faculty research projects which have contributed to national development.
I appreciate the time you have spent to visit our website. In our website, you will find information on our programmes, curricula, admission requirements, our vision, projects and training resources. I encourage you to contact us for more information about our faculty.
Thank you.
